Schipperke Club Open Show 26 March 2023 – Show Report

Thank you to the Committee for a most enjoyable day judging the Club’s Breed Open Show on 26th of March 2023. I had a wonderful entry of quality dogs. The committee made me feel very welcome and the atmosphere at the show was second to none. Most of all, thank you to the owners / handlers for allowing me to go over their lovely dogs. I was very impressed with the quality and movement of all the exhibits, but particularly the veterans who were showing with panache even at 15 years of age.

Minor Puppy Dog (1 entry / 0 Absent)
1st Donaldsons’ ZORBALOO DON JULIO Alert and lively but stands beautifully for one so young, excellent front, level top line, good angulation front and rear without being exaggerated, tail set well on, tight spoon feet, well-proportioned head, darkest of eye, good ear-set, excellent coat for a puppy, exemplary movement from every direction. Later learned that this boy and the best puppy bitch are from the same litter. Definitely a pair to watch. The breeders should be proud. Best Puppy In Show

2nd Wilson’s SCHIPDALE NIGHT FALL AT LYNCATHMOR Dog of good construction, compact and well bult with good front angulation and depth of chest, dark eye in balanced head, well set ears which helped to give him an alert expression, excellent coat and culottes, nice tail and tail set. Moved well.

3rd Massey’s RISTINE MAGICAL SPICE Lovely colour with attractive shading and pleasing expression, a little unsettled at first, good head and eye shape, nice front with good breadth and depth of chest and forelegs well under, flat back might be just a smidgen long, he paid adoring attention to handler before moving at a brisk and purposeful pace.

Open Dog (5/1) An excellent class of quality dogs.
1st Cheatham’s CH SCHIPDALE A KIND OF MAGIC ¬I have previously given this boy Best Puppy in Show and a Group 1 placing so it was no surprise to see him in excellent form today. There is everything to like about this dog who fills the eye as soon as he enters the ring, balanced in build, square in silhouette, dark intelligent eyes totally focused on handler, correct head shape complimented by well-placed ears of the correct shape, face well filled under eyes, strong neck furnished with dense harsh ruff set cleanly onto muscular shoulders, excellent front angulation, straight legs with elbows tucked well under the body, well-ribbed chest, brisket in line with elbows, short strong back narrowing to rounded rump and beautifully curled tail, good tuck-up, rear legs strong and muscular, hocks well let down, spoon feet small and tight, he moved at a purposeful and assured pace expertly handled at just the right speed for this dog. Best In Show

2nd US & CAN CH MARDECK’S WHERE THE MAGIC IS AT SCHIPDALE (IMP CAN) Dr & Mrs Thorne A different type to 1st but no less fabulous for that, slightly smaller and of excellent make and shape, compact and sturdy he tended to stretch a little in the stand today which combined with an excellent forechest and ruff could make him look a fraction long at times, stylish with a beautiful head, foxy expression, dark expressive eyes alertly fixed on handler, ears used to good effect, flat back, well rounded rump, a good harsh coat and super culottes completed the look. Moved true out and back, an accomplished showman. Res Best In Show

Best Veteran In Show

Minor Puppy Bitch (1)
1st Forknall’s ZORBALOO HAPPY HOUR AGAIN AT AVIDORE This girl made me smile. What a bundle of fun, interested in everything, everywhere, all at once. There was nothing not to like about her. Excellent construction, well angulated front and rear without being overdone, elbows could be a little tighter to the body but that should come later – she’s only just 6 months, bright intelligent expression in dark eyes framed by well-set ears used to good effect, lovely topline with flat back to bushy tail carried well over the back, developing beautiful culottes already, tight spoon feet. Full of the excitement of Puppyhood so hardly still for a moment, but when she settled I could see that she was simply stunning in silhouette. Should have a great future Best Puppy Bitch & Res Best Puppy In Show
