Championship Show Judge’s Critique

Thanks to the Schipperke Club and members for inviting me to judge this show and to the exhibitors who entered. I felt that overall the quality was quite good, construction was good in the main although fronts tended to be better than rears and subsequently some of the movement needs attention. I wanted to concentrate on some of the breed points that I think are being overlooked at times and at risk of being lost, like coat texture, pattern, temperament, attitude, shape and outline. In many classes, particularly in the younger dogs, I felt placings could change around so easily as I was nit picking in making my decisions. Generally the Schipp is a slow maturing breed and I felt there were some that have a lot of potential for future years.

Junior Dog – No entries

Special Yearling Dog – 1
1. Zamachowski & Sobolewski Miofrey Charismatic 20mths Black. Nice shape and size, with a decent lay of shoulder. I would have liked a better topline as he was sloping down to his tail rather than level. A good eye shape, ear set and expression. Once he settled he moved OK. In the next class he lost out on maturity but with some work his day could come.

Post Graduate Dog – 4
1. Hood Django Alpha Nero with Arthorn (Imp. CZE) Presented a good balanced out line and mature body shape. Harsh coat with correct pattern and texture. A masculine head with correct eye shape and ear set. Moved out well and true.
2. Wearing Miofrey Dazzling Another with a good shape with bone in proportion to body. He was blowing his coat but it was harsh and the coat pattern was visible. He was unsettled on the move and appeared to be moving close behind but on another day that could improve.
3. Rollinson Chadbower Tadhg Smaller boy with sloping topline, Harsh coat and obvious pattern. He had a good eye and was very alert with typical expression. Rear movement needs attention.
4. Zamachowski & Sobolewski Miofrey Charismatic

Limit Dog – 4(1)
1. Jones Undertaker Jet Du Dragon Rouge Du Jupiter (Imp. FRA) Lovely profile standing with bone in proportion. Masculine but attractive head and expression. Coat harsh and correct pattern. I feel he would benefit from moving a little quicker but I understand his handler has had a foot injury so was limited in how quickly she could move.
2. Finch Ristine Starry Night (AWG) Almost 7 years old. Slightly tall for perfect balance. Coat slightly softer than I would like but good pattern. Moved out OK.
3. Hall Chadbower Drew of Ghilgrange Sloping topline and low tail set which spoiled his outline. Correct head and expression. Moved OK.

Open Dog – 4
1. Hood Revloch Fire at Will (IKC) Good square outline with everything in proportion. Harsh coat with good demarcation. Masculine head with typical expression and attitude. Excellent movement. He featured strongly in consideration for the CC.
2. Jones Undertaker Jet Du Dragon Rouge Du Jupiter (Imp. FRA) 1st in Limit. He moved better in this class but lost out on maturity.
3. Donaldson Mazal Tov Bestseller (Imp. RUS) Definitely small and cobby in outline with bone in proportion to body. Coat slightly softer but pattern obvious. Lovely head and expression. Movement not good in either direction.
4. Bugg Komargo Frankie Falsetto

Special Cream Open Dog – 1
1. Massey Ristine Magical Spice Good shape and outline when he pulled himself together. Typical of a cream he tried hard to throw everything away. He has a lovely head and expression with good pigment. Good ear set when he showed it. Lovely dark eye. Moved well. RCC which I understand gives him his title. Also Best Colour in show.

Champion Dog – 2
1. Donaldson Ir.Ch. Zorbaloo Don Julio Good outline and balance although I feel his chest will still drop a little as he matures. Lovely head with a dark eye of correct shape. Very alert and good alert expression, Harsh coat with well defined pattern. Moved out well.
2. Rollinson & Manners Ch/Ir.Ch. Summerhaze Shafran Among Chadbower Ir Jun Ch (Imp. RUS) Mature male with harsh coat and good pattern. Good topline and tail set. Heavier all through than 1 but I was picking hairs between them and placing could easily change on another day. Moved well.

Special Veteran Dog 7-10 years – 3
1. Forknall Avidore Putin On The Style The last time I judged I gave this boy the RCC mainly due to his behaviour which was a little over the top. Today with a different handler he pulled everything together. He is top size and I would not want any more of him but he is so well put together. You need your hands on him to truly appreciate his construction. Everything is in balance, lovely outline and harsh coat with good pattern. His head is all male but so attractive. Lovely dark eye of correct shape, neat ears of correct size and shape. So alert and expressive. Moved out well and never stopped showing himself off. Delighted to award him his third CC and Best in Show and Best Veteran.
2. Thorne Ch. Schipdale Rebus Smaller male with longer coat but it was harsh and pattern was obvious. Good depth of rib. Alert expression. Slightly narrow in muzzle. Moved OK.
3. Massey Ristine Tweedledee VW More rectangular than square outline with a sloping topline. Strong, masculine head. Movement not great in either direction.

2. Merrion Aura Z Letne at Jatesa (Imp. CZE) 14 months who had nothing to hide. Very raw and will need time for everything to come together. Finer in body and bone and smaller all through than 1. Liked her eye shape and expression but would like a stronger muzzle. Moved OK.

Special Yearling Bitch – 2
1. Massey Miofrey Magical with Ristine Nice balance and proportions. Coat harsh with good pattern Nice expression with good eye shape and size. Moved OK
2. Manners & Scales Roopec Keep Up With Me Very immature and will take time to come together. Finer bone than 1 and neater all through. Coat texture and pattern good. Movement a little erratic today.

Limit Bitch – 2 (1)
1. Manners & Scales Roopec Just One More JW Litter sister to 2nd in SY. Another that will take time. Slightly high on leg right now but when her chest drops I feel she will present a balanced outline. Lovely feminine head with required expression. Showed herself off well. Moved out well.

Open Bitch – 4 (1)
1. Donaldson Ch. Zorbaloo Chaviva Natania 20mths girl who presents a beautiful shape and outline. Her head is beautiful, very feminine and expressive with correct eye shape and colour and good ear set. Not the biggest girl but everything is in proportion. Very animated. Moved out well, certainly the best mover in the bitches. She reminded me so much of some of the bitches I admired in the past. Delighted to award her the BCC, Best Opposite Sex in show and Reserve Best in Show.
2. Rollinson Chadbower Emilia Heavier build but still nice shape and size. Muzzle slightly longer and narrower than I would like but has a good eye shape and colour and required ear size and set. Moved a little close behind.
3. Forknall Zorbaloo Happy Hour Again at Avidore Nice body shape and proportions. Has a lovely head with correct eye shape and colour and ears well set and erect. Very alert with required expression. Movement difficult to assess as she was enjoying herself so much. Has a lot to offer but needs to settle.

The Schipperke Club – 18/10/2025 – Special Awards Classes

Many thanks to the Chair and Committee for a very enjoyable day spent at the Schipperke Club Ch Show judging the Special Awards Classes. A very pleasant atmosphere all day with plenty of support from the ringside.

Special Yearling – Dog/Bitch – 3,0
1 Jones – Roopec Made For Me – 18 month old black bitch, ideal for size and shape. Correct shaped head with good ear set, dark eyes, correct bite. Just the right amount of bone with small feet, correct neck, level topline, well muscled throughout, moved soundly both ways.
2 Zamachowski & Sobolewski – Miofrey Charismatic- 21 month black male who was larger built throughout but still a good shape. He used his ears well, just the right amount of neck, well boned, good topline. Felt he needed more coat which will come with maturity. Moved ok.
3 Manners & Scalesngo – Roopec Keep Up With Me – litter sister to the class winner. Smaller and finer built than the others in the class. She was not using her ears today and did not like her mouth examined. She is in good overall condition and moved ok.

Limit – Dog/Bitch – 2,0
1 Hood – Django Alpha Zero With Arathorn (Imp Cze) – 2 year old male good outline when stood and very cobby in body. Ideal for shape and size, lovely head and expression, correct eye shape, used ears well, just the right amount of neck, good front assembly, level, firm topline, correct tailset. Moved soundly both ways.
2 Finch – Ristine Starry Night – 7 year old black male, not the overall shape of my class winner I felt being slightly longer in loin. Head and expression ok, he has a good coat of correct texture, well bodied, enough bone, moved ok but not the positive front movement of my class winner.

Open – Dog/Bitch – 5,0
1 Philpott – Ch Komargo Going For Gold – 7 year old cream bitch, caught my eye when stood in the line up. She is in very good overall condition. She is a lovely size and cobby. She has a typical head, good pigmentation, dark eyes, correct mouth, she used her ears well. Very sound movement both ways.
2 Manners – Ch Chadbower Nevaeh Lahetti VW – 8 year old black bitch again in good overall condition for age. Pleasing head and expression, good ribbing and topline just preferred the brisker movement of the class winner.
3 Thorne – Ch Schipdale Rebus 8 year old black male. This boy is well balanced in shape and well made throughout. He is well off for bone with good muscle tone. His head is pleasing shape with good ear set and dark eyes. Correct texture coat, well presented.
