Schipperke Championship Show 11/5/24

SCHIPPERKE CLUB SHOW 10th  May 2024

My appreciation to the Committee for the invitation to judge the Club Championship Show at Stafford Show Grounds, it really is an honour to be asked to judge a breed show and not being much around the schipperke rings for a few years I was very much looking forward to the occasion. Needless to say I thoroughly enjoyed judging a lovely entry and finding some really nice dogs. I was looking for good construction and movement and found that in my winners. I did come across some dogs with straight or short upper arms and this is something to watch out for, the legs should stand well under the body. Bites and dentition were generally excellent as was coat texture. Muzzles were overall great with good volume and no snipeyness/weakness. Temperaments were sound although there were a few dogs who lacked animation and that typical Schipperke sparkle and it contributed to their placings.

I was delighted with the quality of my main winners and I’ll always remember my Best in Show winner, at the grand old age of 13.5 years who walked into the ring oblivious to his years, set himself up and had me there and then with his beautiful type and construction, coat and condition, and attitude of which he had lots. It was lovely to hear afterwards that he was grandsire of my Bitch CC winner and sire of my Res Bitch CC winner plus sire of Limit dog winner plus others who were highly placed on the day.

PUPPY DOG (1,0)
1. Ms. S Hood. DJANGI ALPHA NERO WITH ARATHORN (Imp CZE). 9 month old puppy of lovely breed type and developing well, compact with good bone and excellent temperament. Pleasing masculine head of good proportions. Skull/muzzle parallel and well filled under the eye. Good volume in the muzzle with tight well pigmented lips. Lovely eye and schipperke expression. Nice size and shape to ears which are well set and used. Good neck and shoulders. Tail set could be a little higher. Excellent development in chest and forechest at this age. Well angulated behind, a little short in upper arm. Good feet, could be a little firmer in pasterns. Moved with a typical brisk side gait, just tends to lose topline at times. Well structured coat of good texture presented in excellent condition. Excellent temperament and enjoying his time in the ring. Best Puppy Dog and Best Puppy in Show.

JUNIOR DOG (1,0)
1. Dr and Mrs Thorn. SCHIPDALE BARNABY. 15 months old eye catching male presented in excellent condition and developing nicely. Excellent size and proportions in body. Head of good proportions and pleasing in profile. Excellent stop. Dark eye a little large. Excellent ears for size and set. Good muzzle. Tight lips with some pigment lost in corners. Good neck and topline, tail well set on. Well sprung ribs, needs to fill more in forechest. Tends to stand close in front. Good angulations behind, slightly straighter in front. Moved with a good side gait, could be a little better coming. Good coat texture and excellent temperament.

LIMIT DOG (4,0)
1. Ms C Massey. RISTINE TWEEDLEDEE. Best constructed and best mover in this class, a masculine male of good size and bone. Well balanced skull to muzzle although skull is a bit strong and stop a little deep. Lips are tight with some pigment lost in corners. Eyes correct in shape size and colour. Medium tall ears well set and used. Excellent neck and firm topline, could be slightly shorter in loin, well set tail. Excellent shoulders and well angulated front and back. Good chest and forechest. Correct feet although stands a little weak in pasterns. Good texture and volume of coat and sound on the move all ways. Excellent temperament.
2. Ms D Hall. CHADBOWER DREW OF GHILGRANGE (TAF). Good sized male in excellent coat and condition. Good proportions in body, compact and well boned, although lacks neck which spoils his outline. Good balance skull to muzzle, good stop, could be more refined in cheeks. Dark eyes which are a little full and round. Excellent size and shape to ears which were well set and used. Good topline and tail set. Good spring of rib. Well laid shoulder but short and straight in upper arm. Standing he could have made more of himself, lacked sparkle but movement was positive. Good temperament.
3. Ms E Finch. RISTINE STARRY NIGHT AW(S). Male of good size and bone but long in back. Presented in excellent condition he stood and performed well for his handler, although could have had a little more sparkle. Pleasing head in side profile, skull and muzzle parallel. Medium tall ears a little wide at the base. Excellent neck, topline a little soft. Good chest and forechest. Minimum angulation behind. Positive movement sideways but could be better coming.
4. Mr, Mrs and Ms Donaldson. MAZAL TOV BEST SELLER (NBT) (IMP RUSSIA).

OPEN DOG (7,0)
1. Mrs D Forknall. AVIDORE PUTIN ON THE STYLE. Fully mature 7.5 years old well constructed male of excellent type presented in excellent coat and condition making the most of himself. Masculine head of good proportions, a little strong in skull. Excellent eye and expression, good stop and excellent muzzle. Nice eye and expression. Clean well pigmented lips. Ears well set and of good size. Excellent neck, strong topline and well set tail. Compact in body with excellent chest and forechest. Balanced angulations front and back. Moving very well in all directions with correct coat and texture. Excellent temperament. RES DOG CC
2. Mrs K Bugg. KOMARGO FRANKIE FALSETTO. Another quality male who could have made more of himself. Excellent proportions in body and presenting a lovely outline when he pulled himself together. Pleasing balance of skull to muzzle, good stop and volume of muzzle. Well shaped dark eye and excellent size of ears which he was reluctant to use. Excellent neck and topline, tail well set. Good chest and forechest, a little short in upper arm and enough angulation behind. Movement was sound and clean but it could have been more positive.
3. Mrs B A Bradford. KOMARGO GUINNESS N’ BLACK. 5 years male who stood well but could have been a little more animated. Presented in good condition. Pleasing head with a well shaped dark eye and excellent ears for size, shape and set. Tight lips but with loss of pigment. Good neck, topline and tailset, slightly long in loin. Good angulation behind, a little short in upper arm. Excellent feet and moving well on the side gait although a little loose coming.

OPEN DOG ANY OTHER COLOUR THAN BLACK (1,0)
1. Ms C Massey. RISTINE MAGICAL SPICE. 4 years old in excellent condition. Nice
typical, pleasing outline. Head of good proportions, could be slightly cleaner in cheeks. Dark well shaped eyes and good stop. Tight lips with limited pigment. Not using ears to advantage but good size, shape and set. Excellent neck, topline, nicely rounded croup. Nicely balanced angles. Well developed in chest and forechest. Standing on good bone, feet a little long. Moved well sideways but very erratic in front which ultimately cost him a place. Good coat texture.

CHAMPION MALE (2,0)
1. Ms L Collier. CH STONYBURN BANNA. A young 9 years old well constructed
male of good size and bone. Well structured coat. Balanced head, excellent muzzle. Med brown well shaped eye. Well set and used ears. Excellent neck, strong firm topline, tail well set. Excellent shoulders. Angulations balanced front and back. Excellent chest and forechest. Stood well on neat feet. Movement was sound and balanced in all directions. Excellent temperament.
2. Dr and Mrs Thorne. AM & CAN CH MARDECK’S WHERE THE MAGIC IS AT SCHIPDALE (Imp Can). 6 years old smaller male, a real showman who clearly loves being in the ring. Clean well balanced head, lovely eye, well pigmented lips. Medium tall ears well set and used. Good neck, excellent topline. Well developed chest and forechest. Well angulated behind, straight in upper arm. Good bone and feet. Lovely side gait but could have been a little cleaner coming.

3. Mrs & Mrs Brooks/Ms C Davis. DEAKIE DONNIE DINNIE. Masculine dog,
compact with strong bone, presented in excellent coat and condition. Rather strong in skull and could be cleaner under the eye. Medium dark eye and well set ears. Excellent neck and topline. Chest and forechest well development. Stood on good feet but pasterns could be firmer. Moved ok on the side gait, coming could be cleaner. Excellent coat texture and temperament.

SPECIAL VINTAGE DOG (OVER 10 YEARS) (1,0)
1. Miss J M Philpott CH ARADET EXPERT TIMING VW AW(S) WOW! Is what I wrote
in my notes. 13.5 years old and presented in fantastic coat and condition, this dog still has attitude and sparkle and it was obvious to see how much he enjoys being in the ring. He has the most pleasing head, balanced skull to muzzle with correct stop and excellent muzzle. Beautiful eye giving a typical expression, medium sized ears well set and used. Excellent neck and even at this age his topline is still firm, well set tail. Excellent chest and forechest, well angulated behind, a little straight in upper arm. He stood on neat feet showing off his lovely outline and although at this age he’s a little stiff, he took off with purpose displaying a balanced side gait and true movement coming and going. I had no hesitation in giving him the DOG CC and later for Best of Breed I didn’t think at that stage he would beat the Bitch CC winner when asked to move, but once again he took off around the ring and clinched both the BEST IN SHOW and BEST VETERAN IN SHOW awards. He really made my day!

MINOR PUPPY BITCH (1,0)
1. Mrs M. Rollinson CHADBOWER RAISIN. An 8 month old baby who was in
between coats and not looking her best. Fine boned with a feminine head, minimum width skull, good muzzle. Dark eye which was a tad round in shape. Lovely little triangular ears are well set and used. Good neck, topline at the moment is a little soft and a little long in back. Good angulations behind, straighter in upper arm, needs to fill out in chest. Excellent feet and typical puppy movement. Good texture of the coat and excellent temperament.

1. Mrs M. Rollinson CHADBOWER RAISIN.

JUNIOR BITCH (1,0)
1. Ms D Hall. GILGRANGE HANKY PANKY. 14 months old and well into the junior
stage. Feminine with good bone, could be a little more compact in body. Has a pleasing head and muzzle, well pigmented lips. Eyes a little round and big. Excellent ears for size and set. Good neck and topline, a little low set in tail. Excellent angulation behind, straighter in front. Good chest development for her age. Moved well sideways, loose coming. Excellent temperament.

POST GRAD BITCH (2,0)
1. Mrs D & Dr Forknall/J & A Holland. ZORBALOO HAPPY HOUR AGAIN AT AVIDORE. 19 months and a really nice young girl who is developing well. Feminine with excellent proportions in the body. Nice head with a beautiful eye and expression. Excellent ears for size, shape and set. Good neck and firm topline, good tailset. Well angulated behind, a little straight in upper arm. Chest and forechest developing well. Stood on good bone and feet. Movement good on the side gait, a little loose coming. Good coat texture and excellent temperament, one to look out for.

LIMIT BITCH (1,0)
1. Mrs K N Daskalova DENCAS UNDER MY SKIN. 3 years old and full of quality. In
fabulous coat and condition, super feminine she looked a picture when she came into the ring and set herself up. Well constructed and compact in body she stood four square on legs well under her body presenting a lovely outline. She has a well balanced head with a good stop and muzzle. Correct dark well shaped eye, well set and used slightly tall ears. Good neck and topline, well set tail. Excellent chest and forechest, good angulations front and back resulting in movement that was sound and balanced on the side gait and clean coming and going. Nice tight feet and good coat texture, she stood out in the challenge to take a well deserved BITCH CC.

OPEN BITCH (ANY OTHER COLOUR THAN BLACK) (1,0)
1. Miss J.M. Philpott. CH KARMARGO GOING FOR GOLD. Very typey 6 year old, presenting a beautiful outline standing. Typical feminine head with a good stop. Ears well placed, medium tall, used well. Nice dark well shaped eye. Good pigment on tight lips. Lovely neck and topline. Well developed chest and forechest. Would like a little more angulation behind. Good bone and feet. Coat of correct texture, slightly wavy on nape of neck. Excellent movement. RES BITCH CC and BEST ANY OTHER COLOUR IN SHOW

CHAMPION BITCH (4,0)
1. Miss J.M. Philpott. CH KORMARGO GOING FOR GOLD.
2. Mrs K Bugg. CH KOMARGO FEARLESS FLORENCE. Another lovely bitch, compact and good bone. Excellent coat texture. Stood well but underline just spoilt a little due to a little too much condition. Balanced head with excellent ears for size, shape and set. She could have a sweeter eye and expression. Well developed in chest and forechest, good neck, topline and tailset, well angulated front and back and moved very well all ways.
3. Mrs S Wilcox. CH DENCAS COME DANCE WITH ME. Another worthy champion of excellent type, presents a compact outline. Stood well on good bone and feet. Pleasing head with good stop, muzzle and pigment, dark slightly round eye. Tall ears well set and used. Topline ok standing but tended to dip on the move. Well angulated behind, just slightly straighter in front. Movement was good in all directions.
